Fire Dynamics
This course examines fire dynamics within the context of firefighting and its applications to fire situations, including combustion, flame spread, flashover, and smoke movement, as well as applications to building codes, large-loss fires, and fire modeling.

At the end of this course, students should be able to understand the fundamental principles related to fire tetrahedron, heat transfer, heat of combustion, Ideal Gas Law, ignition and flame spread of materials, plumes, smoke and explosions.

Alignment with departmental program outcomes is indicated in parentheses. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to do the following:

1. Analyze building structural components for fire endurance and fire resistance. (PO 2, 3, 4, 5)

2. Understand the flame spread and smoke production properties of building furnishings and materials. (PO 2, 3, 4, 5)

3. Understand the importance and be able to calculate heat release rate for combustibles. (PO 3)

Located on the Daytona Beach Campus, the Jack R. Hunt Library is the primary library for all students of the Worldwide Campus. The Chief Academic Officer strongly recommends that every faculty member, where appropriate, require all students in his or her classes to access the Hunt Library or a comparable college-level local library for research. The results of this research can be used for class projects such as research papers, group discussion, or individual presentations.
