Aviation & Aerospace Sustainability (AASI)

Courses

AASI 600  Sustainable Aviation and Aerospace Perspectives  3 Credits (3,0)

Sustainability fundamentals and their application in aviation/aerospace. Environmental effects from aviation/aerospace operations. Aviation sustainability schemes and standards (ie ICAO CORSIA CERT tool, ISO 14001). Environmental risk assessment methods in aviation facilities; CSR and social sustainability for aviation. New technologies' impact in aviation sustainability.

AASI 605  Aviation and Aerospace Sustainable Organizations  3 Credits (3,0)

Investigate sustainable operations of aviation and aerospace organizations. Analyze how the distinctive operations of aviation and aerospace organizations could move along with sustainability practices. Sustainable strategies must be a core element within aviation and aerospace organizations; the development of a sustainable strategy should consider the distinctive characteristics of the industry and the interactions among its stakeholders.

AASI 607  Airport Sustainability Operations  3 Credits (3,0)

Examine the role of sustainability in airport operations. Assess schemes to reduce airport's environmental footprint, net zero emission schemes; energy efficiency plans, renewable energy technologies, noise performance evaluation, waste and water management programs. Techniques for airports as healthier facilities for employers, employees, users and the community; economic and social sustainability factors for airports.

AASI 611  Sustainable Aviation Fuels and Carbon Offsetting  3 Credits (3,0)

The role of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) in aviation; SAF's economic, social and environmental benefits to aviation industry and society; environmental assessment of SAF and conventional aviation fuels using life cycle assessment software tools; assess market trends and supply chain challenges; the role of SAF in carbon offsetting emission schemes.

AASI 613  Sustainable Air Traffic Management  3 Credits (3,0)

Sustainable processes and operations in Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems. Address existing air traffic management operations, and new technologies, and schemes, SESAR, DREAMS and Performance Based Navigation (PBN), and their role in meeting sustainability principles.

AASI 625  Sustainability Policy in Aviation and Aerospace  3 Credits (3,0)

Distinguish the applicable sustainability policies, regulations and initiatives for aviation operations. Assess the National and international agencies and their goals and schemes for emissions, operations, design and fuel use. International treaties, the Paris Agreement, Pathways to Net Zero initiatives, ICAO's sustainability guidance, and national and global sustainability schemes in aviation and aerospace.

AASI 629  Sustainable Air Vehicles; Design and Propulsion  3 Credits (3,0)

Design and development of technologies that form the new, sustainable era of aviation. Electric Vehicles, Hydrogen fuel cells, Drones and Urban Air mobility vehicles, space operations and their role in aviation/aerospace sustainability are assessed, along with aerodynamic designs and structures for fuel-efficient aircraft with reduced noise and emissions generation.

AASI 635  Sustainable Aviation Techniques and Tools  3 Credits (3,0)

Techniques and tools for sustainability in aviation and aerospace operations. Lean management, Six Sigma and ISO standards, sustainability guiding principles, risk management standards, and result-oriented quality tools are necessary for auditing processes of a sustainable system.

AASI 639  Aviation Corporate Sustainability Management  3 Credits (3,0)

Evaluate necessary components of aviation corporate sustainability management. Create and evaluate indicators measuring aviation and aerospace sustainability activities. Address factors that leadership in aviation organizations must consider in meeting sustainability goals. Creation of corporate sustainability strategies including investment tools for applying sustainability initiatives in the industry.
