Minor in Occupational Safety and Health
Minor courses of study are academic programs designed to satisfy students’ interests and to meet their professional needs. Students explore, in some depth, the offerings in a field of study.
The Minor in Occupational Safety and Health provides the skills and knowledge required to identify potential hazards and associated risks in general industry. In a safety-conscious organization, it is crucial to prioritize the creation of safer workplaces to prevent losses and promote the well-being of employees, the environment, and profits. Students will gain a fundamental understanding of critical aspects of occupational safety, including ergonomics, industrial hygiene, system safety management, fire protection, systems design for fire and life safety, loss control and insurance, construction safety, environmental compliance and safety, and occupational safety and health.
A minor course of study provides the student with significant experience in a discipline organized around skills, methodology, and subject matter. Students are encouraged to select minors that complement their degree program and/or other minors that they are pursuing to gain the greatest value from their academic experience.
The student becomes subject to the minor’s requirement as stated in the effective catalog when the minor is declared. The department/program chair responsible for a particular minor determines how students fulfill deficits in credits for a minor and certifies that students are qualified to receive the minor.
