B.S. in Astronomy and Astrophysics to M.S. in Data Science

This program allows the exceptional student to complete the Bachelor of Science in Astronomy and Astrophysics (BSAA) and Master of Science in Data Science (MSDS) degrees.

Upon completing the BSAA requirements, the Bachelor of Science degree in Astronomy and Astrophysics will be conferred, and students will be enrolled in the MSDS degree. In any graduate course taken by an undergraduate student, a grade of “B” or better must be earned. These credits will count toward the B.S. and MSDS degree requirements, provided the student maintains enrollment in the combined program and receives a "B" or better in the courses.

If the student chooses to leave the program before the completion of the MSDS program and has acquired the minimal hours required for graduation with the BS in Astronomy and Astrophysics, any MSDS transition courses used to meet graduation requirements will be noted as undergraduate courses for the purpose of graduation.

Approved Courses for the Combined Option

Students enrolled in the combined option must consult their academic advisor and the MSDS program coordinator to determine appropriate course selection. Students will take DS 540 and/or an MSDS Track-Specific Course to replace an equal number of elective courses in the BSAA degree.
