Class Attendance

For courses leading to FAA certificates, minimum contact hour requirements are imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); therefore, attendance in those courses is strictly enforced. Students should provide explanations for absences to the instructor in advance whenever possible. 

Students enrolled in Worldwide courses are subject to modality-specific attendance expectations: 

• For classroom-based face-to-face instruction and EagleVision Classroom courses, physical attendance is required. 
• For EagleVision Home (real-time virtual) courses, students must attend scheduled sessions live; watching recordings does not count as attendance. Completion of the EagleVision Home Technology Compliance Agreement is required before the term starts; failure to do so may result in administrative withdrawal. 
• For asynchronous online courses, attendance may be measured through participation such as discussion thread postings and responses. Faculty may determine how these elements contribute to the final grade. 

Faculty are responsible for recording the last date of attendance for each student in each class. 

Final Examinations 

A final examination is normally given at the end of each course. A student who misses a final exam without prior approval from the instructor may receive a failing grade (F) for the course. A grade of Incomplete (I) may be assigned only if the student obtains advance permission or provides satisfactory evidence that the absence was unavoidable. 

Flight Training Attendance 

Attendance at scheduled residential flight block activities—including oral briefings, simulator sessions, and flight labs—is mandatory. Missed activities may result in a reduction of the final course grade. For more information, refer to the Embry-Riddle Flight Operations Manual.
