FAA Medical Certification Policy for B.S. in Aeronautical Science Students

To ensure continued eligibility for required flight training, students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science degree must maintain FAA medical certification beyond the freshman year and throughout their enrollment in the program.

• Initial Certification Requirement:
  • Students with sophomore standing or higher (30 or more earned credit hours) must hold a valid FAA medical certificate (with no day or night limitations) that was initially issued as a First-Class or Second-Class Medical, regardless of its current class status.
• Ongoing Validity:
  • Students must maintain a valid FAA medical certificate (with no day or night limitations) at all times while enrolled in the Aeronautical Science degree program and participating in flight training.
• Grace Period for Loss of Medical:
  • A one-semester grace period will be granted to any student who has their FAA medical certificate suspended or revoked by the FAA.
  • During this period, students may continue academic coursework but may not participate in flight training activities.
• Failure to Meet the Requirement:
  • Students who do not hold a valid FAA medical (with no day or night limitations) by the start of their sophomore year, or who fail to regain medical eligibility by the end of the grace period, must change to a non-flight degree program.
  • In these circumstances, academic advising will be provided to assist with program selection.
