B.S. in Safety Management

The Bachelor of Science in Safety Management is designed to prepare students to address safety challenges in dynamic regulatory environments. This program is ideal for active-duty military personnel, industry researchers, managers, safety specialists, and individuals with no prior safety and health background who are interested in entering the field.

At the Worldwide Campus, the B.S. in Safety Management program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to operate as competent leaders, managers, and practitioners in safety management. Students will develop technical understanding and expertise and a practical and analytical approach to problem solving that will allow them to address industry-related safety challenges in both the public and private sectors.

The Safety Management program is a Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Qualified Academic Program (QAP), meeting rigorous standards and offering a curriculum aligned with the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation.

Graduates are awarded the Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) designation, placing them on the path toward Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.

Students may also apply for the Associate Safety and Health Manager (ASHM) credential through the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM), streamlining the path to the Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) certification.

The bachelor's degree in Safety Management is an approved Category I – AU-ABC program and appears in the Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC) for selection.

Program Details

The Bachelor of Science in Safety Management requires successful completion of a minimum of 121 credit hours. Students enrolled in the Worldwide Undergraduate Online program may complete the degree in 20 terms, or approximately four years, assuming full-time enrollment and continuous progress. Students pursuing this undergraduate degree must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 for all work completed at the University. The courses required to earn this degree are listed below.

Students should be aware that many courses have prerequisites and/or corequisites. Students are responsible for ensuring that all prerequisite and degree requirements are satisfied prior to enrollment in advanced coursework. The suggested plan of study is provided as a guide. A student's actual plan of study may vary based on term of admission, course availability, transfer credit, and other academic considerations. Students should consult with their academic advisor to develop an individualized plan of study.

Students must complete 18 credit hours of approved Safety Management electives selected from Safety Management (SFTY), Emergency Management (EMGY), and approved safety-related Security (SCTY), Emergency Services (ESVS), and Homeland Security (HLSC) courses. In consultation with their academic advisor, students may also use elective coursework to complete an approved Worldwide minor while satisfying degree requirements.
