The University defines enrollment and course load expectations as noted below.

Full-Time Status

  • While the minimum full-time load is 6 credits, the normal maximum graduate load for residential campus students is 9 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters; 6 credits during summer.
  • Students may register for an overload for a maximum of 12 credit hours in one semester only after approval from the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.

Tuition Implications for Doctoral Students

  • Residential campus students registered for at least 6 and maximum of 12 credit hours in fall or spring semester are eligible for block tuition.
  • Fall and Spring block tuition eligibility is recalculated at the end of the current semester for registered students, and adjustments may occur if attempted credits change.
  • Courses are charged per credit hour in the summer semester.

Enrollment Restrictions

Across all campuses, a student’s enrollment may be limited or adjusted when such action is determined to be in the student’s best academic interest. Restrictions may be imposed by Academic Advising, the department chair, or the College Dean/designee.
