Equivalency Exams

Internal Course Equivalency Exams 

Daytona Beach and Prescott campus students who believe they possess sufficient knowledge and who have not previously failed that particular course may apply to take the course equivalency examination for a maximum of 15 credit hours. Applications must be made prior to the time the student reaches the last 30 credits for a bachelor’s degree, or the last 15 credits for an associate's degree, and must be approved by the Department Chair/local Director of Academics based on his or her assessment that the student appears to possess the necessary background knowledge. 

A nonrefundable fee is charged for administering each equivalency exam. Because students may take a course equivalency exam only once for each course, those failing a course equivalency examination must enroll in and complete the course to receive credit.

Course equivalency examinations will be graded either P (pass) or NC (no credit); these do not affect the student’s grade point average (GPA). A score which is the equivalent of a C grade (using appropriate departmental standards) must be achieved in order to receive a P grade for a course-equivalency examination. Students who pass the examinations receive full credit for the course to which the examination applies.
