Dual Degree or Double Major

Dual Degree

Students may pursue a second undergraduate degree (associate or bachelor’s) concurrently with or after completing a first degree, provided they meet all university and academic program requirements. 

To earn a second baccalaureate degree, students must: 

• Complete a minimum of 25% additional, non-duplicating degree-applicable credit hours beyond the primary degree. 
• Complete at least 60 credit hours in residence at Embry-Riddle. 
• Complete at least two-thirds (or 20 of 30 hours) of the additional coursework at the 300-400 level. 
• Complete all degree requirements for both programs. 
• Declare which degree is the primary degree for graduation purposes. 

To earn a second associate degree, students must: 

• Complete a minimum of 25% additional, non-duplicating degree-applicable credit hours beyond the primary degree. 
• Complete at least 30 credit hours in residence at Embry-Riddle. 

Each undergraduate degree will be reflected separately on the transcript and will result in a separate diploma. 

Declaration of a Concurrent Second Undergraduate Degree

• Students must declare their intention to seek an associate’s degree concurrently with a bachelor’s degree as early as possible, preferably at the time of admission and prior to their final semester/term of enrollment.

Double Majors

A double major consists of one baccalaureate degree with two distinct majors/programs. Students pursuing a double major: 

• Earn one diploma, with the second major noted on the transcript. 
• Must complete all academic requirements for both programs prior to graduation. 
• May not be allowed to pursue certain major combinations due to curriculum overlap or policy restrictions. 
• Must obtain approval from the appropriate Program Coordinator or Department Chair to declare a second major. 
• Are subject to the catalog requirements in effect at the time the second major is declared, unless otherwise noted.
