Veteran Student Services

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) degree and certificate programs are approved by the appropriate State Approving Agencies (SAAs) for enrollment of persons eligible to receive education benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). These benefits are available to eligible students attending the Daytona Beach (DB), Prescott (PC), and Worldwide (WW) campuses.

Eligibility and Admission

To receive VA education benefits, students must be admitted into an approved degree or certificate program. Admission procedures for veterans and other eligible persons are the same as those for other students.

Academic Progress and Standards

Title 38, U.S. Code, sections 3474 and 3524, mandates that VA benefits be discontinued if a student ceases to make satisfactory academic progress toward their training objective. Benefits may be interrupted if:

  • Undergraduate students have a CGPA below 2.0 for three consecutive terms;
  • Graduate students are dismissed or fail to meet academic standards;
  • Certificate students (WW) do not maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, with one probationary term allowed.

Students must submit a written request for reinstatement of benefits, including proof of academic counseling and evidence of meeting conditions for continued enrollment. The VA will determine reinstatement of eligibility based on the University's recommendation.

Standards of Progress Policy

Veterans must maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP), which includes GPA, program pace, time limits, attendance, and conduct.

Student Responsibilities

Veteran students must:

  • Notify the School Certifying Official of any enrollment or personal information changes.
  • Comply with both University and VA regulations.
  • Enroll only in courses required for their designated degree or certificate program.

VA education benefits do not cover elective flight courses. Students should be aware of how course auditing, repeating courses, or changing programs can affect their benefits.

Veterans Pending Payment Compliance

In accordance with Title 38 US Code 3679(e), ERAU adopts the following additional provisions for any students using U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Ch. 33) or Veteran Readiness and Employment (Ch. 31) while payment to the institution is pending from the VA.

ERAU will not:

  • Prevent a student’s enrollment;
  • Assess late penalty fees;
  • Require alternative funding;
  • Deny access to institutional resources;
  • Require that a covered individual borrow additional funds to meet their financial obligation to the institution;
  • Restrict access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities available to other students who have satisfied their tuition and fee bills to the institution.

To qualify, students must provide a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or equivalent documentation, such as a Statement of Benefits or an Authorization form (Chapter 31). Students should also submit a written request to use such entitlement.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government website at http://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.
