Flight Training Credit

All students desiring to complete off-campus flight training for academic credit after matriculation must be pre-approved in writing in advance by the Flight Department. The credit that will be awarded is Advanced Standing (see Awarding Advanced Standing section below). The procedures for requesting this credit when the pre-approved off-campus flight training is satisfactorily completed will be specified in the written approval form "Off Campus Flight Authorization Request." Address any questions to the Flight Department.  See the following sections for specific requirements.

Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) Accredited Programs

Students in AABI-accredited programs may be awarded credit for FAA certificates and ratings held prior to matriculation to ERAU after the knowledge and skills required for the FAA certificate and/or rating are validated. Students may receive permission to complete training for an FAA certificate or rating after matriculation if the student was deemed eligible for the appropriate FAA Practical Exam prior to matriculation. Except as provided above, after a student matriculates, all flight training for credit must be completed at ERAU or approved at another AABI-accredited program. In all cases, students must satisfactorily complete at least one FACR flight course group on campus after advance standing is awarded or AABI program courses are transferred. This flight course group must include an FAA practical exam that results in the issuance of an FAA certificate or rating. These requirements pertain to credit for FAA flight certificates and ratings applied to Flight Minors and open elective credit in AABI programs as well. Students should refer to their catalog to verify if their degree program is AABI-accredited.

Minors, Majors, or Areas of Concentration

Students who are not in AABI-accredited programs who are pursuing flight minors, majors, areas of concentration, or specialization that have a required FACR course must satisfactorily complete at least one FACR course group on campus after completion of the approved off-campus flight training. This flight course group must include an FAA practical exam that results in the issuance of an FAA certificate or rating. If students declare a change of program to an AABI-accredited program (see above), the advanced standing credit for flight training after matriculation will not transfer.

Elective Credit

Students who are not in AABI-accredited programs and are not pursuing Flight Minors, Majors, or Areas of Concentration may be awarded credit for FAA certificates held prior to matriculation. After these students matriculate, off-campus flight training for academic credit may be approved in writing in advance by the Flight Department for Advanced Standing credit. Advanced Standing credit is awarded for an FACR course group. Advanced Standing credit may not be applied towards an ASCI course for flight ratings attained off-campus after matriculation. Students who declare a change of program to an AABI-accredited program are advised that Advanced Standing credit for flight training after matriculation will not transfer. Students declaring a Flight Minor, Major, or Area of Concentration must successfully complete at least one FACR course group on campus after Advanced Standing credit is awarded for an FACR course.

Awarding Advanced Standing

Students who obtain off-campus flight training that was approved in writing in advance by the Flight Department may obtain Advanced Standing credit. Upon satisfactory completion of the pre-approved flight training, all students must show their copy of the approved "Off Campus Flight Training Authorization Request" form in addition to the appropriate documents of their training to the Flight Department. Approved Advanced Standing credit for an FACR course group will be applied to the student's transcript. Advanced Standing credit will not be awarded for any ASCI course for flight ratings attained off-campus after matriculation.
