Program Specific Criteria

Admissions requirements and procedures vary by campus, applicant type, and by degree program. They also vary between technical and non-technical programs and may require an applicant to have additional courses, demonstrate a higher GPA, meet other special requirements, and/or submit additional documentation. Review the list of programs by campus to determine additional requirements for admission.

Daytona Beach

Graduate Programs

M.S. in Aerospace Business Analytics

Applicants from any major are eligible to apply for the MSAEBUAN degree. While there are multiple criteria to judge the strength of an application, possessing a strong academic record, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher is given preference in the MSAEBUAN program.

Additional evidence of strength in application can be demonstrated by performance in the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or other equivalent assessment as deemed appropriate by the program committee prior to matriculation. While there is no minimum acceptable score, applicants who score in the top 50th percentile will be more competitive.

M.S. in Aerospace Engineering

Applicants to the MSAE program should have an undergraduate degree in aeronautical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other engineering related degrees. The bachelor’s degree earned must be from an ABET-accredited engineering institution or its international equivalent. Applicants should also possess a strong academic record, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The Graduate Records Examination (GRE) is required for acceptance into this program and applicants are encouraged to score score at least 158 in the quantitative area (approximately 70th percentile). The GRE is waived for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Bachelor of Science Aerospace Engineering students; however, the GRE is required in order to be considered for financial aid from the AE Department.

Applicants with a bachelor’s or equivalent degree in other engineering disciplines, mathematics, or physical science, who otherwise meet the requirements for full admission, may also be admitted into the MSAE program. Within the MSAE program, applicants may opt for the thesis option or the non-thesis option.

Note: Entry into the MSAE program is only available for the fall and spring semester of each academic year. Summer start is not offered.

M.S. in Aviation

Applicants to the MSAV program must have prerequisite knowledge in the areas of:

  • Behavioral Science
  • Computer Applications
  • Mathematics (including Statistics)

Applicants who do not possess such knowledge, may be required to register for prerequisite courses in these areas. Applicants should possess strong academic records as evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The GMAT or GRE are not required for admission into this program.

M.S. in Aviation Finance

Applicants possessing an undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related transportation fields of study are encouraged to apply for the MSAF program. Applicants from other majors are also accepted into the program, but need to have completed certain undergraduate classes in economics, accounting, finance and statistics as deemed appropriate by the faculty in Master’s program committee at the time of application.  Applicants lacking this academic preparation will need to take the appropriate ERAU undergraduate courses as a condition for admission. These pre-requisite courses must be completed prior to taking graduate level course work in the subject area.

For applicants whose background is not in Finance, scoring in the top 50th percentile in the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) will make application more competitive. Applicants should possess a strong academic record, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher.

Master of Business Administration

Applicants from any major are eligible to apply for the MBA degree. While there are multiple criteria to judge the strength of an application, possessing a strong academic record, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher is given preference in the MBA program.

Once admitted, students may be required to complete an MBA preparatory program of learning units prior to the beginning of classes. This preparatory program does not result in academic credit. It is designed to reinforce existing knowledge and address knowledge deficiencies to ensure students possess the necessary readiness for success in the MBA program.

M.S. in Computer Science

Applicants to the MSCS program should have an undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline. Applicants should also possess strong academic records, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The GMAT or GRE are not required for admission into this program.

M.S. in Data Science

Applicants to the MSDS program should have an undergraduate degree in any technical related field (a degree with at least 4 semesters of college-level Math). Applicants with a non-technical undergraduate degree will be required to complete additional modules. Applicants should also possess a strong academic record, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The Graduate Records Examination (GRE) is required for acceptance into this program and applicants are encouraged to score above the 50th percentile in all subject areas.

M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering

Applicants to the MSECE program should have an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physical sciences, or any another engineering related discipline. The bachelor’s degree earned must be from an ABET-accredited engineering institution or its international equivalent. Applicants should also possess a strong academic record, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The GMAT or GRE are not required for admission into this program.

M.S. in Engineering Physics

Applicants to the MSEP program should have an undergraduate degree in engineering, physics, or a related field. Applicants should also possess a strong academic record, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The Graduate Records Examination (GRE) is required for acceptance into this program and applicants are encouraged to score above the 50th percentile in all subject areas.

M.S. in Human Factors

Applicants to the MSHF program must have prerequisite knowledge in the areas of psychology and statistics. If applicants do not possess such knowledge, they may be required to register for undergraduate prerequisite courses in these areas. Applicants should also possess strong academic records, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The GMAT or GRE are not required for admission into this program.

Note: Entry into the MSHF program is recommended for the Fall semester of each academic year.

M.S. in Mechanical Engineering

Applicants to the MSME program should have an undergraduate degree in any engineering related field. The bachelor’s degree earned must be from an ABET-accredited engineering institution or its international equivalent. Applicants should also possess strong academic records, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The Graduate Records Examination (GRE) is required for acceptance into this program and applicants are encouraged to score above the 50th percentile in all subject areas.

M.S. in Occupational Safety Management

The MSOSM program welcomes graduates with an undergraduate degree as well as working professionals with experience. Applicants should also possess strong academic records, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The GMAT or GRE are not required for admission into this program.

M.S. in Software Engineering

Applicants to the MSSE program must have prerequisite knowledge in the areas of:

  • Discrete Mathematics
  • Data Structures and Algorithms
  • Computing Systems (operating systems, computer architecture)
  • Programming involving high-level language (for example, C/C++, JAVA, Ada, Visual Basic)

Applicants who do not possess such knowledge may be required to register for undergraduate prerequisite courses in these areas. Applicants should also possess strong academic records, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher, along with a creditable background in computing.

The GRE exam, although not mandatory, is strongly encouraged for this degree program and for consideration of fellowship and assistantship award programs offered by the Department of Computing.

M.S. in Space Operations

The MSSO program welcomes graduates with an undergraduate degree as well as working professionals with experience. Applicants should also possess strong academic records, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The GMAT or GRE are not required for admission into this program.

M.S. in Systems Engineering

Applicants to the MSSYSE program should have an undergraduate degree in computer engineering, physical sciences, or any engineering discipline. The bachelor’s degree earned must be from an ABET-accredited engineering institution or its international equivalent. Applicants should also possess a strong academic record, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The GMAT or GRE are not required for admission into this program.

Applicants who do not possess the required background maybe admitted conditionally with the provision that they complete specific undergraduate courses prior to enrolling in graduate courses.

M.S. in Uncrewed and Autonomous Systems Engineering

Applicants to the MSUNSE program should have an undergraduate degree in computer engineering, physical sciences, or any engineering discipline. The bachelor’s degree earned must be from an ABET-accredited engineering institution or its international equivalent. Applicants should also possess a strong academic record, generally evidenced by a CGPA of 3.00 or higher. The Graduate Records Examination (GRE) is required for acceptance into this program and applicants are encouraged to score above the 50th percentile in all subject areas. These scores inform admissions decisions and help to determine the level of support for graduate assistantships or scholarships.

M.S. in Uncrewed Systems

  • Current high school students and recent graduates under the age of 20 must meet established admissions requirements and demonstrate a 3.0 high school CGPA, with coursework that reflects 4 years of college preparatory mathematics and 2 years of college preparatory science, including a laboratory science.
  • Transfer applicants must meet established admissions requirements and demonstrate a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (CGPA); transfer credit deemed equivalent to demonstrate academic preparedness for immediate entry into COMM 122 English Composition and MATH 241 Calculus and Analytical Geometry I, will be considered for admission into the program. Skills Assessment scores will be used for advising purposes if English and Math transfer credit demonstrates academic preparedness for admission into the program.

Students who fail to satisfy the guidelines for full admission may be considered for conditional admission under circumstances determined by the Admissions Office OR may be considered for admission into an alternate program. A written petition for admission, current resume and other supporting documentation may be requested for consideration of admission. Exceptions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Current Worldwide students requesting a change of program to the AS in Engineering Fundamentals must complete the English and Math Skills Assessments and demonstrate successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of Embry-Riddle coursework, achieving a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Exceptions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

B.S. in Engineering

Admissions Criteria

In addition to meeting the Worldwide Campus admissions requirements, applicants for admission must:

  • Current high school students and recent graduates under the age of 20 must meet established admissions requirements and demonstrate a 3.0 high school CGPA, with coursework that reflects 4 years of college preparatory mathematics and 2 years of college preparatory science, including a laboratory science.
  • Transfer applicants must meet established admissions requirements and demonstrate a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (CGPA); transfer credit deemed equivalent to demonstrate academic preparedness for immediate entry into MATH 241 Calculus and Analytical Geometry I, will be considered for admission into the program. Skills Assessment scores will be used for advising purposes if Math transfer credit demonstrates academic preparedness for admission into the program.

Students who fail to satisfy the guidelines for full admission may be considered for conditional admission under circumstances determined by the Admissions Office OR may be considered for admission into an alternate program. Current Worldwide students requesting a change of program to the Engineering Fundamentals Certificate must complete the Math Skills Assessments. Exceptions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Graduate Programs

M.S. in Aerospace Engineering

Admissions Criteria

Applicants for admission to the MSAE Degree Program must meet the following criteria:

  • Provide evidence of an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 or higher, on a 4.0 scale. If earned in the United States, the degree must be from an ABET-accredited program (accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission, EAC). Applicants with graduate coursework must meet the established graduate transfer CGPA.  Students with a Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in other engineering disciplines, who otherwise meet the requirements for full admission, may also be admitted to the MSAE program.
  • The Graduate Records Examination (GRE) is required.
  • Submit (2) letters of recommendation. One letter is required from a professional contact. If you graduated within the last two years, (1) letter must be from a recent instructor, which can also serve as a professional contact.

Note: Graduates of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University receiving an engineering (ABET EAC – accredited) degree with at least a 3.2 undergraduate GPA may be excused from the GRE and Statement of Objectives requirements.

EXCEPTIONS: Applicants who fail to satisfy the guidelines for full admission may be considered for conditional admission under circumstances determined by the Admissions Office or Program Chair. Applicants will be required to submit the following documentation in addition to official transcripts:

  • Submit a current resume outlining your education, work experience, special activities and awards.
  • Prepare a type-written Statement of Objectives, demonstrating strong capacity for written communication and elucidating the following topic areas:
    • A description of the applicant's reasons for wishing to do graduate work in the field chosen.
    • A description of the applicant's interests and background.
    • A description of the applicant's long-term professional goals, defining how Embry-Riddle’s MSAE program supports those interests and goals.

M.S. in Airworthiness Engineering / Airworthiness Engineering Certificate

Admissions Criteria

Official transcript(s) from the accredited degree conferring institution(s) and transcripts reflecting graduate level coursework.

  • Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, Math, OR an ABET accredited (EAC) Engineering degree; exceptions to this will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Submit (2) letters of recommendation. One letter is required from a professional contact. If you graduated within the last two years, (1) letter must be from a recent instructor, which can also serve as a professional contact.

EXCEPTIONS: Applicants who fail to satisfy the guidelines for full admission may be considered for conditional admission under circumstances determined by the Admissions Office or Program Chair. Applicants will be required to submit the following documentation in addition to official transcripts:

  • Resume outlining work experience, education, relevant activities and awards
  • A type-written Statement of Objectives, demonstrating a strong capacity for written communication and addressing the following topic areas-
    • The applicant’s understanding, in their own words, of what Airworthiness Engineering entails.
    • The applicant’s background and exposure to engineering to-date, in both their academic and professional career.
    • A statement of the particular MSAWE electives the applicant intends to pursue (Structures, Systems,  or Management) and a discussion of why this election was made.
    • An explanation of the applicant’s overall academic and career objectives, including how the applicant believes that the MSAWE program will positively contribute to the achievement of stated goals.

Current students requesting to transfer into the MSAWE program will be required to meet the same program requirements stated above.

M.S. in Occupational Safety Management

Prerequisite Knowledge

Subject knowledge for a specific graduate course must be satisfied before enrollment in that course is permitted. Students may enroll in graduate level courses only if they meet prerequisite knowledge requirements.

Applicants for admission to the Master of Science in Occupational Safety Management (MSOSM) program must have prerequisite knowledge in the following areas:

  • College algebra (or higher) and at least one college-level course in chemistry or biology or physics.

Students should assume responsibility to see that prerequisites are satisfied. The prerequisite subject knowledge for a specific graduate course must be satisfied before enrollment in that specific course is permitted. Students may enroll in other graduate-level courses as they meet any specific prerequisite knowledge required.

The prerequisite knowledge can be validated through one of the following:

  • Completed an undergraduate or graduate course in each of the specific subject areas and upon validation of the course from an official transcript; -OR-
  • Completed a course listed in either the National or ACE Guide for which academic credit in one of the specific subject areas is recommended; -OR-
  • Received at least the minimum recommended score on a CLEP, DSST/DANTES, PEP, etc. exam in each of the subject areas as required.

M.S. in Space Systems

Admissions Criteria

In addition to the established admissions requirements, applicants for admission to the Master of Science in Space Systems degree program must meet the following criteria:

  • Provide evidence of an undergraduate STEM degree. STEM field of study is a field of study “included in the Department of Education’s Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) taxonomy within the 2-digit series containing engineering, biological sciences, mathematics, and physical sciences, or a related field. In general, related fields will include fields involving research, innovation, or development of new technologies using engineering, mathematics, computer science, or natural sciences (including physical, biological, and agricultural sciences).

EXCEPTIONS: Applicants with degrees from all other disciplines may be considered for conditional admission under circumstances determined by the Admissions Office and/or Program Coordinator. Conditions of admission will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Admissions Criteria

Applicants and students requesting an internal transfer to MSSYSE should meet the following criterion-

  • Applicant has successfully completed an equivalent to both MATH 242 and STAT 211/STAT 222 and have a 3.0 CGPA or higher in their undergraduate program.
  • Submit (2) letters of recommendation. One letter is required from a professional contact. If you graduated within the last two years, (1) letter must be from a recent instructor, which can also serve as a professional contact.
  • Applicants may utilize the following link to access the Graduate Program Recommendation Form.
  • Any applicants with graduate coursework must meet the established graduate transfer CGPA as well.

NOTE: Applicants who fail to satisfy the guidelines for full admission may be considered for conditional admission under circumstances determined by the Admissions Office or Program Chair. Applicants not meeting the MATH 242 and STAT 211/STAT 222 requirement specifically, must successfully complete SYSE 515 prior to enrolling in MSSYSE core courses if accepted under conditional terms. The candidate will be notified of academic conditions of admission, including specific information on required course prerequisites, at the time a decision is rendered. Students granted custom conditional admission must adhere to the individual terms outlined in their letter of admission and will remain on conditional status until they have satisfied the terms of their conditional admission.
